Tuolumne Meadows is the Yosemite High Country. It lies above the crowded Yosemite Valley and offers a solitary escape from the rest of the world.

This hike takes us past Elizabeth Lake to Nelson Lake. We then cross the mountains to the east to Sunrise Meadow and the Sunrise Lakes. From there we hike up the narrow trail to Clouds Rest, and descend to Yosemite Valley.

Directions:
From Highway 395 turn west onto Highway 120 (Tioga Road). From Yosemite Valley take Big Oak Flat Road to Highway 120 and turn right. Once you arrive in Tuolumne Meadows you will park in the backpacker parking lot and walk to the Tuolumne Meadows Group Campground. The trailhead is located at the back of the campground.

General Notes and Observations:
The route described here requires cross country travel. In other words, for part of the hike there will be no trail. The route is simple in that there is only a few small sections that require any sort of scrambling, but you should bring a 7.5 minute USGS Topo Map (and know how to read it!) so that you do not get lost.
