The Yosemite High Sierra Camps are a tradition nearly as old as the park itself. They are each located in the beautiful Tuolumne Meadows high country and are a day hike apart.

Our trip begins at Tenaya Lake to May Lake HSC. Then we go back down to Tioga Road and get back on the trail to Cathedral Pass and on to Sunrise Meadow HSC. From there we take a cross-country short cut between a couple domes across the meadow from camp to the trail and continue on to Merced Lake HSC. Finally we climb the grueling trail past Emeric Lake to Vogelsang HSC. Unfortunately, we left Vogelsang and descended back down to Tuolumne Meadows.

Directions:
From Highway 395 turn west onto Highway 120 (Tioga Road). From Yosemite Valley take Big Oak Flat Road to Highway 120 and turn right. Once you arrive in Tuolumne Meadows you will park in the backpacker parking lot. There may be backpacker parking closer to Tenaya Lake. If not you can take the free shuttle to the trailhead.

General Notes and Observations:
All the High Sierra Camps have beds, backcountry gourmet meals, clean bathrooms, and all but two camps have showers with warm water. However badly you want to "get away from it all" there is no shame in visiting a High Sierra Camp -- if you can afford it.
